Laura Kwan was born and raised in Vancouver, BC. She graduated from the British Columbia Institution of Technology in 2017, with a Bachelor of Business Administration, specializing in Human Resources.
Prior to joining Smythe in 2016, Laura worked at BCIT as a Classification Analyst for two years, where she was involved in the development of a program called National Advanced Placement & Prior Learning. Now, as a Human Resource Assistant, Laura plays a key role in the recruitment of new talent, championing team culture and supporting the overall HR function.
Outside of work, Laura paddles for a women’s dragon boating team, enjoys spending time with her dogs and playing board games with friends.
Whitney Friesen graduated from the University of the Fraser Valley in 2012 with a Bachelor of Business Administration, specializing in human resources. In 2013, she obtained her designation as a Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR).
Prior to joining Smythe in 2016, Whitney spent over 3 years coordinating professional development programs for the Human Resources Management Association. Now in her role as Human Resources Coordinator, Whitney plays a key role in the recruitment of new talent, coordinating training, championing team culture and supporting the overall HR function.
Outside of work, Whitney is an avid traveler and enjoys spending time outdoors, going to events and shows and trying out new restaurants.
Caoimhe Bourke graduated from the University of Limerick, Ireland with a Bachelor of Business Administration, specializing in Human Resources, and obtained her CIPD certification in 2007. She joined Smythe in 2011, and a year later achieved her CPHR designation. In 2016, Caoimhe completed her Master of Science in Strategic Human Resources at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.
As the Human Resources Director at Smythe, Caoimhe is committed to maintaining a high performance work culture. Her areas of expertise include talent acquisition and management, employee relations and compensation.
Caoimhe plays an active role advising senior management on how to build and sustain performance, understanding individual goals to help people grow in their careers, and identifying opportunities for the team to leverage their strengths. Her motivation and focus is to align corporate vision and values to create an engaged and motivated team, while fostering an environment where people truly enjoy working at Smythe.
Born in Mauritius, Hervé moved to London, England at the age of five. Hervé graduated from the University of Manchester, UK with a degree in Accounting and Economics. He holds a Chartered Accountant designation in both England and Canada.
Hervé’s public practice career began in London, and has included working with an extensive group of industries and within international accounting practices. Throughout his career, he has resided in the UK, Singapore and Hong Kong, before moving to Vancouver. Hervé’s focus in assurance and advisory business services has been with international businesses with a particular emphasis in life sciences technology, and exploration companies utilizing his extensive knowledge of IFRS, US GAAP and SOX requirements ans ASPE. Hervé is also the partner responsible for people at Smythe.
An avid runner, Hervé has competed in a multitude of 10K runs and half marathons. He sits on the board of Little Flower Academy and has served as Finance Chair, Board Member and Treasurer for a variety of associations.
