Randy has over 30 years of experience providing professional tax advice across a variety of industries. He has extensive experience with owner-managed businesses, including corporate reorganizations, business succession structuring and estate planning.

In addition, Randy has many focus areas, one being specialized tax services for First Nations, including structuring commercial groups, establishment of settlement trusts and advising on the tax chapters of treaties. Previously, Randy served for many years as the National Leader of the First Nations Tax Group at a national firm. Randy has also served as the Treasurer of the Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation, and is currently involved with the New Emergency Room Fundraising Committee for the Langley Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Randy graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Accounting. He started his career at a national firm in Prince George, BC, and after 13 years there, he and his family relocated to the Lower Mainland. Prior to joining Smythe in November 2017, Randy worked at a national firm as a tax partner.

In his spare time, Randy enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and their three Doberman Pinchers. Over the years they have rescued many Dobermans and enjoy spending time with them from mountain trails in the Rockies to the sandy beaches of Tofino.

John has close to 30 years of experience in both public and private practice across a variety of industries, including real estate, food processing, forestry, shipping, yacht building, manufacturing, legal, professional corporations and technology. His focus has been on owner-managed enterprises, specifically, corporate reorganizations, mergers, acquisitions and dispositions. Prior to joining Smythe LLP in February 2017, John worked at a national firm as a tax partner for many years.

John graduated from the University of British Columbia with an undergraduate degree, and later attained his MSc in Marine Law from the University of Wales. He is a member of the Society of Estate and Trust Practitioners, a former Trustee and Secretary for the BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, and Director of the Seymour Golf and Country Club. John is also a licensed Ship’s Master.

Janice has extensive experience specializing in US and Canadian taxation services providing income and estate tax planning and compliance to a wide variety of clients including US citizens and residents living in Canada, as well as other individuals who are moving or working in the US.  Prior to joining Smythe LLP in February 2016, Janice headed up a Vancouver-based US and Canadian individual tax practice.

Janice is a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario where she obtained her Bachelor of Business Administration degree.  She is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of BC and is a US Certified Public Accountant. 

Outside of work, Janice enjoys spending time with her family and can often be found at the rink supporting her youngest daughter’s hockey pursuits. She is also on the Board of the Dance Foundation for the Scotia Bank Dance Centre. 

Mike has over 25 years of experience in providing accounting and business advisory services to the Canadian insurance industry. In particular, Mike focuses on providing clients with industry leading advice including:

  • Preparation of brokerage valuation reports used for mergers & acquisitions, shareholder agreements, succession planning, litigation and income tax;
  • Expert reports and opinions including financial analysis on specific issues encountered by brokerages and insurance companies;
  • Purchase and sale representation for both vendors and purchasers in mergers & acquisitions including price determination, negotiation, assisting with the drafting of agreements and facilitation between parties to ensure a successful closing and transition to the acquirer;
  • Due diligence to ensure that the potential purchaser is well informed of both risks and opportunities of an acquisition.

Mike has taught courses on broker acquisition and succession strategy, developed a training program on profitability management, and contributes articles and papers to various industry publications including the publication of the Canadian P&C Industry Report.

Mike is a graduate of the UBC Sauder School of Business (Finance). He is a member of the professional associations Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada and Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators (CBV).

 

Daniel graduated from SFU with a Bachelor of Business Administration majoring in accounting and finance. He joined Smythe in 2008 as a student and obtained his CA designation in 2011. Daniel has completed his CPA In-Depth Tax Course.

Daniel is primarily focused on providing accounting, assurance, tax planning and consulting services to private and public companies in various industries including real estate and construction, hospitality, technology, and manufacturing. Within the Firm, he is a member of the Real Estate and Construction Industry Group, Training Committee and is active in student mentoring and development.

Outside of work, Daniel enjoys traveling and playing all sorts of sports including hockey, basketball and volleyball.

Suki has been with Smythe since 2001, where she has had the opportunity to grow with the Firm while developing meaningful relationships with her clients.

Suki specializes in providing assurance services to publicly traded companies operating in the resource industry, as well as private companies across a number of industries in both Canada and the US. Having grown up on a raspberry farm in Abbotsford, Suki also focuses her private practice on the farming and agriculture industry, chairing the Firm’s Farming & Agriculture Industry Group. Suki also heads the Firm’s business development training department, is an advocate for student mentoring and is highly involved in CPA training and recruiting each year.

Besides her work, Suki enjoys skiing, travelling and spending time with her family.

Camellia was born and raised in Vancouver, BC and has spent her entire career at Smythe since starting as a summer student in 2001. She graduated from UBC in 2002, with a Bachelor of Commerce with honours and continued on to get her CA designation, which she achieved in 2005.

Camellia has extensive experience providing business advisory, assurance and tax services to a wide-variety of clients in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors with a focus on personal and corporate tax planning for owner-managed businesses. Her clients operate in various industries, including digital media, hospitality, manufacturing and real estate & development.

Travelling is one of Camellia’s passions along with being a self-proclaimed foodie. Staying active is important to her so when she’s not travelling you can find her running the seawall or playing tennis.

Sindy has over ten years of experience in tax.  She spent five years practicing at a national firm and three years as a senior tax manager at CHC Helicopters. Sindy joined Smythe in 2009 as a senior tax manager where she found her passion advising owner-managed businesses. Sindy specializes in tax planning including corporate reorganizations, estate & succession planning, in-bound investments & structuring, personal tax planning and GST.

Sindy was born in China and immigrated to Canada with her family when she was two years old.  She graduated from UBC with a Bachelor of Commerce as a finance major and achieved her CA designation in January 2004.  Sindy is a member of the CPABC-CRA Commodity Tax Liaison Committee and the Canadian Tax Foundation.

Alex was born and raised in the Lower Mainland. He joined Smythe in 2004 as a summer student from UBC and obtained his CA designation in 2008 and his CBV designation in 2014. Alex won the 2013 George Ovens award for the highest mark in Canada on the final exam for the Chartered Business Valuators designation.

Alex is focused on being a trusted business advisor to his owner-managed clients. He enjoys taking the time to learn about their business and work with them to achieve their goals. He draws on his valuations, corporate finance, tax and accounting experience to develop a tailored approach to fit their needs.

Within the Firm, Alex is a member of Smythe Advisory, the Real Estate & Construction Industry Group, Training Committee and Standard & Quality Control Committee.

Outside of work, Alex is a big sports fan and avid traveler. He has recently been to Southeast Asia, Europe and scuba-diving in Belize.

As a Tax Partner, Bob enjoys the rewards of working closely with his clients to provide solutions to their challenges. Bob advises on a number of tax matters, including business reorganizations, estate and succession planning, the purchase and sale of businesses, and personal tax planning. Originally from a national firm in Vancouver, Bob joined Smythe LLP in 2003 to focus on providing tax advisory services to owner-managed enterprises.

Bob was born in Lillooet, BC and completed high school in Richmond. He graduated from UBC with a Bachelor of Commerce and became a CA in 2002. Bob is a member of the ICABC-CRA Income Tax Liaison Committee and the Canadian Tax Foundation.

Bob is a proud father of two young girls, and enjoys playing squash in his spare time. Bob also shares the Firm’s passion for hockey. His mission as a Partner is to support the positive culture of the Firm, while contributing to its growth.
