Julie moved to Vancouver in the early 1980’s, where she immediately began her career in public practice. She became a partner at a CPA firm in 1992 where she worked for over 25 years before Joining Smythe.
Julie has extensive experience providing business advisory, assurance and tax services to a wide variety of clients in the private sector, focusing mainly on personal and corporate tax planning for owner‑managed businesses. Her clients operate in various industries including logging, fishing, investments and professional corporations.
Outside of work, Julie’s passions include watching the Canuck’s, paddle boarding, skiing and travelling to various vacation locations for half marathons.
Kyle graduated from the University of Victoria and began his professional career in 2000. He obtained his CA designation in 2004 and over the years has worked with mid-sized and national accounting firms, providing business advisory, assurance and taxation services to privately owned businesses. Kyle works with clients in a variety of industries, including lumber and building supply retailers, professional organizations and real estate investment companies.
Outside of work, Kyle served a five-year term on the board of directors and finance committee of a local not-for-profit organization.
In his spare time, Kyle enjoys travelling and experiencing different cultures. When not travelling, he keeps busy by chasing after his two young kids and maintains a healthy lifestyle through a variety of activities.
Paul Woodhouse is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and a Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) who has been providing valuation and financial advisory services since 1988. Paul joined us from MNP LLP, where he was a Senior Manager in their Edmonton practice for three years. Prior to that, he was with PwC for over a decade and has also operated his own boutique valuation practice for several years.
Paul’s expertise includes business valuations, litigation support, quantification of economic losses and related matters. Paul has appeared as an expert witness before the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta, as well as at arbitration hearings. Paul has significant industry experience in the Technology, Brewing and Hospitality sectors.
Edwin grew up in Vancouver, graduated from UBC with a Bachelor of Commerce and obtained his CA designation in 1985. Over the course of his career, Edwin worked three years with the Canada Revenue Agency, 13 years in various financial reporting and controllership roles, and has been in public accounting for 21 years working with mid-sized and national accounting firms. He has served a variety of clients, including major motion picture studios, real estate and construction companies, not-for-profit organizations and owner-managed businesses.
After spending seven years as a principal with a mid-sized national firm in their private company assurance group, Edwin returned to Smythe in September 2016 to provide accounting, assurance and taxation services to owner-managed businesses and not-for-profit organizations.
Outside of work, Edwin has served on the board and finance committees of several not-for-profit organizations, worked as a volunteer CFL statistician and is currently serving on a committee for the CPA Institute of BC.
In his spare time, Edwin trains with various track and field clubs in long jump, triple jump and short sprint events, and has been to several provincial and national age group championships.
Graham grew up in Victoria, BC and attended the University of Victoria, where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics. After graduation, Graham worked in various industries before returning to school to complete the CA prerequisite courses.
Graham articled at a mid-sized CPA firm, where he spent over 4 years providing tax and accounting services to owner-managed businesses. Graham obtained his CA designation in 2006, earning a place on the National Honour Roll. In 2008, he moved to EY LLP as an analyst in the business modelling and valuations practice where he addressed valuation issues for both public and private clients in various industries. Graham obtained his CBV designation in 2010.
Prior to joining Smythe, Graham spent over 4 years at BDO Canada LLP. As a Senior Manager in BDO’s financial advisory services practice, Graham worked on a variety of engagements including valuations for tax reorganizations, litigation support, transactions and financial reporting purposes. His industry experience includes forestry, mining, oilfield services, real estate, construction, manufacturing, retail, distribution, high-technology and wireless communications.
Graham joined Smythe in February 2016 as a Principal and began working in the Firm’s new Langley location. There, Graham looks forward to returning to his roots, applying his wide range of experience to providing tax and accounting services to owner-managed businesses. As Graham is also a member of the Firm’s Valuations & Advisory Practice Group he continues to provide valuation services.
With 15 years of experience, Theresa understands that it is extremely important to ensure that each of her clients receives special treatment and their need for accurate reporting is met. Understanding the needs of each of her clients, Theresa is able to problem solve and develop systems that enhance the company’s financial statements and report on what is needed.
Theresa started her education with a Business Management – Accounting Diploma and progressed to the CGA-BC Program of studies. Working with various businesses and industries, Theresa has gained experience and knowledge that helps her clients operate their business. Theresa has a strong ability to problem solve and develop solutions that work in the long term and are not just a quick fix. Her current focus is on Not for Profits and the construction industry.
Linda has been working at Smythe since 1982 when she joined the Firm as an accounting student from Columbus, Ohio. Linda graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Ohio State University, and continued on to achieve her CGA designation in 1991.
Linda has over 30 years of accounting, tax and assurance experience and specializes in providing corporate and personal taxation services to private companies, owner-managers and families. She also focuses on corporate re-organizations and tax and estate planning.
When Linda isn’t working, she enjoys spending time with her family; camping, skiing, antiquing, reading for pleasure and spending time at Mount Baker.
Teree specializes in providing Canadian and cross-border corporate tax planning advice for US-based corporations starting their business in Canada. She enjoys helping these clients navigate the Canadian tax system while they grow their businesses. She also has expertise in corporate and personal tax planning and compliance.
Teree graduated from the University of British Columbia where she received her Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting. She obtained her CGA designation in 2007 and began her tax career at Ernst & Young. She joined Smythe in 2010 as a Tax Manager to focus on providing tax advice to owner-managed enterprises.
Teree was born and raised in Vancouver, BC and enjoys everything the city has to offer. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, hiking, cooking, and has a passion for travel.
A graduate of UBC, and originally from Hong Kong, Mable began her career with Smythe as an articling student in 1993. Throughout her years with the Firm, Mable has focused on accounting and tax advice for owner-managed businesses.
For Mable, the highlight of her role as a Chartered Professional Accountant is learning about clients? businesses and being able to provide valuable advice.
Mable enjoys working with the great staff of Smythe, and they, in turn, appreciate her sound advice, inspiration and humour. Mable maintains a committed focus on mentorship and student recruitment, together with training and development for the Firm.
With a background in the gourmet restaurant industry, Mable combines her flare as an amateur food critic with her passion for international travel. When not attending to these interests, Mable can be found skiing, cheering on the Canucks, or delivering her solid volleyball skills as an integral and competitive player for the Smythe team.
