Daniel Lai

At Smythe, Daniel currently serves as the leader of the Real Estate & Construction industry group, where his focus is on providing structuring solutions and tax planning advice to clients in this space. He also works with various other private enterprise clients, including clients in the technology industry—including venture capital and private equity funds—as well as owner-managed businesses with a focus on providing business advisory and tax planning.

Daniel is a proud alumnus of SFU, having graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration. He joined Smythe in 2008 as a student, obtained his CA designation in 2011 and completed the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax program.

Daniel’s interest in all things real estate extends to his private life, where he enjoys exploring and appreciating construction, architecture and interior design. Since 2021, Daniel has been serving as the treasurer of the famous Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden located in Chinatown, Vancouver. In his leisure time, he also enjoys traveling and playing sports such as hockey, basketball and volleyball.
