Smythe Welcomes Two New Partners

Vancouver, BC – January 3, 2023 – Smythe LLP is pleased to announce that Aliya Goldan and Karen Cheng will be joining the firm’s partnership, effective January 2, 2024.

Aliya graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Finance, and obtained her CPA, CA designation in 2011. She first joined Smythe in 2013 as Manager – Canadian Tax and rejoined in 2016 after spending two years in the tax group of a mid-sized national firm. Aliya focuses on personal and corporate tax planning for owner-managed businesses across various industries. Her areas of expertise include estate planning and corporate reorganizations. As a subject matter expert in Canadian tax, Aliya shares her knowledge with various associations including the Canadian Tax Foundation—where she presented at last year’s BC Tax Conference on recent decisions that affect owner-managed businesses and private companies.

Karen graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Commerce, specializing in accounting. Originally from Vancouver, Karen joined Smythe in 2013 and obtained her CPA designation in 2016. Karen provides accounting, assurance and business advisory services to public and private companies. She works closely with clients in the mining and exploration, technology, and pension and benefit plans industries. She is currently an active member of the Firm’s Standards Group, training committee, and Pension and Benefits Plans industry group.
