Lilian Zheng

Lilian joined Smythe’s Cross-Border & US Tax team in 2023, working closely with individuals and privately held businesses. She specializes in cross-border individual tax planning and compliance in Canada and the United States.

Lilian completed her undergraduate degree at Simon Fraser University and received her CPA designation in 2012. Prior to joining Smythe, Lilian worked in cross-border taxation at the Big 4 firms for over 12 years. She has experience helping with employer and employee payroll and tax-related issues for Americans working in Canada (and vice versa). As well, a niche focus of hers is reviewing stock-based deferred compensation and award plans to ensure they are compliant from a Canadian and US perspective.

Lilian co-authored a paper, “Remote Work – A New Reality” and was a presenter at the 2021 Canadian Tax Foundation Western conference. In her spare time, Lilian enjoys golfing, yoga, and spending time outdoors with her son.
